Felix the Fox
Kind of a weird story, but after we first moved into a new house out in the woods we started meeting ALL of the neighbors. It was kind of like moving into a Disney movie, but without all of the singing and if you replaced all of the cute animals with woodchucks, bobcats, raccoons, random stray cats, and more!
Naturally, against my advice, the rest of the family "had" to feed everything that came across our doorstep. After a few months, our doorbell caught this beauty and we watched it timidly investigate our porch over the next few days. From our observation, it looked like it was recently in a fight, it's tail completely removed of hair, a large chunk of fur and skin was missing from it's right hind leg, and limped on and off our property.
Out of concern for both the kiddos and the fox, we sent a few photos over to Don and Judy looking for advice. We wanted to make sure that it was free from manage or any other issues that could transfer to humans or other animals. The first step was to take care of any infections and the next was to monitor. Over the next three months, the fox received a name "Felix" and a daily boiled egg or hot dog with a little System Saver packed within.
Each day, we would watch as Felix would stand at the top of our walk way looking into our front door. We would roll out its treat and it would quickly run off to its den at the corner of our property. Over a small period of time, we watched as the fox returned back to good health. It's full beautiful tail returned and Felix went back to its normal behavior.
Over time, we started seeing Felix a little less as it returned to normal nocturnal behavior. Our doorbell still catches the familiar porch investigation, and on occasion we see few younger pups run around the property.
Thank you Don and Judy for helping us do our part and keeping the beauty of the forest alive!
